Vale plans to build new railways and ports for Carajas iron ore to prepare for capacity expansion

Vale (Vale SA) said it was considering building a new railway and port in the Brazilian state of Para in preparation for the expansion of its Carajas Serra Sul iron mine. The new railway will extend 400km from the current Carajas railway to the port of Vila do Conde in the state of Maranhao in northeastern Brazil. Last month Vale said last month it was considering doubling the annual production of the Serra Sul Carajas iron ore to 150 million tons a year.
