SMM6, May 5: according to data disclosed by Chilean customs, the export price of Chilean lithium carbonate has fallen to an average of US $10655 per ton, the lowest since November last year, Bloomberg reported. Prices fell 17.6% from a year earlier and 9% from a month earlier.

The price of lithium carbonate in South America also fell to $12750 in April and further to $12250 in May, the lowest price since June 2017, according to Benchmark Mineral Intelligence.

Previously, Soc., the world's second largest lithium producer, Quimica y Minera de Chile (SQM) has said the fall in lithium prices is far from over.

Lithium prices fell by 8% in the first quarter of 2019, but in the coming months, lithium prices are likely to fall by more than 25%.

Ricardo Ramos, the company's chief executive, said lithium miners were stepping up production to seize business opportunities as demand for lithium mines was rising at double-digit rates, but it was creating a glut of lithium mines.
