Chile's Caserones Copper Mine Union said: no agreement has been reached in labor negotiations and a strike is imminent.

SMM, Aug. 10 (SMM)-the last round of labor negotiations with miner Lumina Copper Mine (Lumina copper) broke down and a strike is about to break out, the trade union of the (Caserones) copper mine in Caserones, Chile, said on Wednesday.

"at present, the negotiations have broken down and the management has given us a bonus because they want to conclude the negotiations as soon as possible, but they have not listened to our demands." Nelson Iribarren, the president of the union, said.

If Lumina fails to improve the terms of her contract by Friday, the strike will begin next Tuesday, Iribarren said.

The Caserones strike comes as workers at Chile's Escondida copper mine enter the final stages of negotiations with BHP Billiton, adding to the uncertainty in the copper market.

Caserones's union voted down Lumina's final contract at the end of July.

The mine produced 122800 tons of copper in 2017, accounting for just over 2 per cent of Chile's total annual copper production.
