Zinc and Lead Products Excluded in China Blacklist against North Korea

China announced the List of Mineral Products Banned for Imports from North Korea April 5.

SHANGHAI, Apr. 6 (SMM) - China announced the List of Mineral Products Banned for Imports from North Korea April 5. Zinc ore and lead ore and related products are excluded in the blacklist, SMM reports.

North Korea faces harsh new U.N. sanctions to starve it of money for its nuclear weapons program following a unanimous Security Council vote on Wednesday on a resolution drafted by the United States and China.

According to the U.N. sanctions, all U.N. member countries are required to inspect all cargo going to and from North Korea.

China Customs show China imported 95,000 tonnes of lead concentrate, 55,000 tonnes of zinc concentrate and 3,600 tonnes of refined zinc from North Korea in 2015, accounting for  5%, 1.7% and 0.7%, respectively, in China’s total imports.
