【SMM Aluminum Flash News】US-Based MEC Plans $26 Million Metal Fabrication Expansion, Creating 140 Jobs
Mayville Engineering Company (MEC) plans to invest approximately $26 million to renovate an existing metal fabrication facility in Thomson, Georgia, creating around 140 new jobs. Facility upgrades and equipment installation will be carried out over the next few years. MEC provides aluminum extrusion, coating, assembly and aftermarket services, serving commercial vehicle, data center and construction industries. The company said the investment will expand its manufacturing capacity and strengthen its US production network to better meet downstream customer demand.

【SMM Aluminum Flash News】Germany's Aluminum Flat-Rolled Consumption Reaches 1.68 Million mt in 2025
Germany's aluminum flat-rolled products consumption was estimated at 1.68 million mt in 2025, up slightly from 1.66 million mt in 2024. Domestic production reached approximately 1.4 million mt, with imports of 400,000 mt and exports of 120,000 mt. Meanwhile, German primary aluminum production declined from 341,212 mt in 2022 to 189,471 mt in 2023, highlighting the growing gap between upstream smelting and downstream processing capacity. In trade terms, Germany's aluminum flat-rolled imports reached approximately $5.04 billion in 2025, up 18.7% YoY, while exports increased around 11% to $8.18 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of approximately $3.14 billion. The sector is increasingly focused on higher-value processing and recycled aluminum feedstock, with the market projected to grow from $5.95 billion in 2025 to $6.69 billion by 2030,

Germany's construction-related aluminum consumption is estimated to have declined by around 12% between 2022 and 2025, falling from approximately 499,500 mt to 439,500 mt, while total aluminum consumption decreased from 3.33 million mt to 2.93 million mt. High financing costs, elevated building material prices and weak residential investment have weighed on construction activity. Following a 3% contraction in 2025, Germany's construction sector is projected to grow by around 1% in 2026 and 2% in 2027. Meanwhile, Germany is strengthening closed-loop aluminum recycling in construction. The sector generated an estimated 130,000 mt of aluminum scrap in 2023, with approximately 75,000 mt collected through an industry recycling network. Recovering investment in transport infrastructure, power grids, data centers and residential construction could support future demand for aluminum and recycled materials, although actual growth will depend on project implementation and aluminum intensity.
