Williams: US Monetary Policy Appropriate Despite Inflation Risks, No Immediate Rate Change Needed

Williams, President of the New York Fed and Vice Chairman of the FOMC, said that while various factors such as the Middle East conflict pose upside risks to inflation, current US monetary policy is in an appropriate position. In his view, the US Fed does not need to adjust interest rates in the near term, and the future path of rates remains unclear.

It also mentions that if disruption from the Middle East conflict persists through 2027, global growth is expected to slow down significantly, with the 2026 rate at only 2.1% and the 2027 rate as low as 1.8%.
