[Relatively Firm Support from Raw Material Side; Non-Oriented Silicon Steel Market May Be in the Doldrums Next Week] This week, spot prices of cold-rolled non-oriented silicon steel in the Shanghai market remained stable, with overall market transactions performing moderately. Market feedback indicated that current market demand was sluggish, with downstream motor enterprises being cautious in procurement, primarily making just-in-time procurement. The relatively firm support from the raw material side provided certain support for spot silicon steel prices, and traders mainly sold at par prices.

Non-Oriented Silicon Steel Price Dynamics

Shanghai B50A800 grade: 4,400-4,400 yuan/mt

Guangzhou B50A800 grade: 4,350-4,350 yuan/mt

Wuhan 50WW800 grade: 4,320-4,320 yuan/mt

Shanghai market: This week, spot prices of cold-rolled non-oriented silicon steel in the Shanghai market remained stable, with overall market transactions performing mediocrely. Market feedback indicated that current market demand was weak, downstream motor enterprises were cautious in procurement, mainly making just-in-time procurement; raw material support remained relatively firm, providing certain support for spot silicon steel prices, and traders mainly sold at flat prices. Overall, spot prices of cold-rolled non-oriented silicon steel in the Shanghai market are expected to be in the doldrums next week.

Guangzhou market: This week, cold-rolled non-oriented silicon steel prices in the Guangzhou market remained temporarily stable, with a mediocre trading atmosphere. Market feedback indicated that current ordering costs from state-owned steel mills remained firm, but downstream motor enterprises purchased as needed with moderate purchasing enthusiasm, traders mainly kept quotations stable, and there was some room for negotiation in actual transactions. Overall, cold-rolled non-oriented silicon steel prices in the Guangzhou market are expected to show a trend of being in the doldrums next week.

Wuhan market: This week, the cold-rolled non-oriented silicon steel market in Wuhan was in the doldrums, with a lukewarm trading atmosphere. Market feedback indicated that steel mill June futures prices remained firm, but circulating resources from local state-owned steel mills in the market increased somewhat, downstream end-users' purchasing pace was slow, market trading inventory edged up, and traders held cautious expectations for the market outlook. Overall, spot prices of cold-rolled non-oriented silicon steel in the Wuhan market are expected to be in the doldrums next week.

[SMM Analysis] Phased Trade Recovery Proves Unsustainable, Stainless Steel Inventory Ends Destocking and Edges Higher SMM, June 4 – This week, social inventory of stainless steel ended its previous streak of destocking, posting a slight buildup. Total inventory at the two major hubs, Wuxi and Foshan, edged higher, rising from 936,300 mt on May 28, 2026 to 940,400 mt on June 4, up 0.44% WoW, marking a shift from destocking to accumulation. This week, SS futures staged a phase rally driven by macro tailwinds. The short-term strengthening of the futures market once boosted trading sentiment and triggered a phased recovery in spot transactions. However, the rally lacked sustainability; after futures pulled back, spot transactions quickly returned to mediocre levels. The market has now officially entered the traditional consumption off-season, and downstream end-use purchasing demand is gradually weakening. Even as steel mills proactively offered price concessions to sell and accelerated goods circulation, end-user purchasing willingness has yet to see a material improvement. Meanwhile, overall production schedules at steel mills remain high, and the support from raw material costs for spot prices continues to weaken. The supply-demand easing pattern is becoming increasingly prominent, and multiple factors jointly pushed inventory to shift from decline to growth this week. Overall, the weakening of end-use demand during the off-season, combined with high production schedules at mills, was the core reason for the slight inventory buildup this week. Relying solely on short-term impulse rallies in futures to provide phased boosts to spot shipments cannot reverse the trend of inventory accumulation. On the supply side, there are currently no large-scale production cut measures implemented at steel mills; high production schedules are expected to persist in the near term, keeping market supply releases ample. Currently, market trading sentiment is cautious; industry participants' confidence in the market outlook is gradually declining, and they are adopting a wait-and-see operation...

[SMM Weekly Summary] Ample Cost and Sentiment Support — Grain-Oriented Silicon Steel Prices May Hold Up Well with Generally Stable with Slight Rise Next Week
[Sufficient Cost and Sentiment Support: GO Silicon Steel Prices May Hold Up Well Next Week] This week, cold-rolled grain-oriented silicon steel spot prices fluctuated upward, with overall market trading activity recovering steadily. Market feedback indicated that orders from downstream transformer and power equipment enterprises were being released steadily in recent periods, end-user restocking demand picked up, and purchasing enthusiasm improved notably compared with the previous period, no longer limited to rigid-demand purchases, with small and medium-sized restocking orders increasing. Raw material cost support remained solid, and combined with mainstream steel mills raising their June ex-factory base prices, this provided strong underpinning for the spot market, with bullish sentiment continuing to heat up.

[SMM Iron & Steel] US Raw Steel Production Rises 8.8% YoY in Week Ending May 30, 2026
According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), US domestic raw steel production reached 1.872 million net tons for the week ending May 30, 2026, representing an 8.8% year-on-year increase and a 0.1% week-on-week rise. The capability utilization rate stood at 81.1%, up from 76.6% in the same period last year and slightly above the 81.0% recorded in the previous week. Adjusted year-to-date production through May 30, 2026, totaled 38.925 million net tons with an average capability utilization rate of 78.6%, marking a 6.8% increase from the 36.461 million net tons produced during the same period in 2025. Geographically, the Southern district led production with 848,000 net tons, followed by the Great Lakes (495,000 net tons) and the Midwest (321,000 net tons). The market impact indicates that the sustained growth in US steel output and robust utilization rates reflect a resilient domestic manufacturing sector; supported by localized demand and protective trade measures, North American mills continue to maintain steady supply levels despite broader global market stagnation.
