According to the latest data released by the General Administration of Customs, SMM statistics showed that China's SiMn and FeMn exports totaled 4,394.9 mt in April 2026, down 28.67% MoM and up 28.38% YoY. China's total SiMn and FeMn exports from January to April reached 15,060.79 mt, up 80.10% YoY.

According to the latest data released by the General Administration of Customs, SMM statistics showed that China's SiMn and FeMn exports in April 2026 totaled 4,394.9 mt, down 28.67% MoM and up 28.38% YoY. From January to April, China's total SiMn and FeMn exports reached 15,060.79 mt, up 80.10% YoY.

In April 2026, China's SiMn and FeMn exports declined significantly MoM while still maintaining YoY growth. The short-term export pullback was mainly constrained by multiple real-world factors. First, the domestic production side remained under pressure. Affected by raw material price fluctuations, the SiMn industry had weak profitability. Enterprises in northern production areas actively cut production, while alloy plants in south China maintained low operating rates. Overall market circulating supply tightened, and enterprises had insufficient spot cargo available for exports. Second, after the earlier surge in domestic SiMn market prices followed by a rapid correction, market volatility intensified. Foreign trade merchants saw reduced pricing stability, overseas buyers exhibited strong wait-and-see sentiment, and temporarily slowed their concentrated purchase pace. Third, export orders were released in a concentrated manner in March, prematurely consuming part of the foreign trade demand. In April, overseas downstream stocking entered its final stage, and overseas market procurement demand weakened on a periodic basis. Meanwhile, the price spread between domestic and overseas markets narrowed, China's SiMn export price advantage diminished, and foreign trade order signing volumes declined notably. Overall, domestic capacity contraction, periodic weakness in external demand, and the earlier depletion of orders collectively caused this month's SiMn exports to pull back significantly MoM.

From the perspective of import and export regional structure, SiMn exports were primarily destined for Indonesia.

Regarding the sustainability of future SiMn alloy exports: from a macro perspective, it is necessary to track the transmission effects of changes in the global economic environment on the overall SiMn market; from a fundamentals perspective, the focus should be on the recovery pace of overseas steel mill production demand, as well as changes in domestic SiMn producers' capacity release and cost control.

[China Iron Ore Brief] Iron Ore Prices in West Liaoning May Remain in the Doldrums
[Domestic Iron Ore Brief] The trading atmosphere in the western Liaoning domestic ore market was cautious. Local iron ore concentrates prices edged down by 5-10 yuan, with the current ex-factory price of 66-grade iron ore concentrates on a wet basis and tax-exclusive at 730-740 yuan/mt. Local iron ore concentrates resources were relatively tight, and most mines held back from selling. Steel mills recently saw profit margins shrink, with domestic iron ore procurement mostly on an as-needed basis and a relatively strong desire to bargain down prices. Overall, market transactions were relatively sluggish. Combined with the recent weak trend in iron ore futures, this may weigh on domestic ore prices.

[SMM Steel] Asian HRC Prices Remain Stable Amid Weak Demand and Cautious Buying
[SMM Steel] Asian HRC prices remained largely stable despite weaker Chinese macroeconomic data and lower iron ore prices. Market sentiment stayed cautious as weak domestic demand in China pressured spot sales and buyers adopted a wait-and-see approach. Chinese mills were reluctant to release new offers amid uncertain price trends. Meanwhile, Europe has largely suspended imported HRC purchases ahead of new safeguard measures effective July 1 and the upcoming summer holiday season.

[SMM Steel] EU Steel Quota Cuts Raise Concerns Over Ukraine’s Export Losses
[SMM Steel] Ukraine’s steel industry warned that the EU’s planned steel safeguard revisions could significantly reduce the country’s export revenues and damage its wartime economy. Under the new measures effective from July 1, the EU plans to cut steel import quotas by 47% and impose a 50% tariff on out-of-quota volumes. Ukrainian steelmakers said the restrictions could sharply limit access to their largest export market, as Ukraine exported around 2.65 million mt of steel to the EU last year. Industry sources estimated the proposed quota reductions could cut export volumes by around 70% and result in up to €1 billion in lost export revenues.
