Today, #1 copper cathode spot prices in North China against the front-month contract were reported at an average discount of 220 yuan/mt to a discount of 140 yuan/mt, with the average price down 10 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. The average transaction price was 102,605 yuan/mt, up 590 yuan/mt from the previous trading day.

#1 copper cathode spot prices in North China against the front-month contract were reported at an average discount of 220 yuan/mt to a discount of 140 yuan/mt, with the average price down 10 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. The average transaction price was 102,605 yuan/mt, up 590 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. As the month-end period approached, some suppliers cut prices to clear inventory, and spot premiums in the market continued to weaken. The purchasing sentiment for copper cathode in North China was 1.37, up 0.06 from the previous trading day, while the shipments sentiment was 2.48, up 0.36 from the previous trading day ().

Shanghai Copper Market Sees Price Sensitivity, Contango Support Amid Slowing Destocking and Supply Inflows

Looking ahead to tomorrow's Shanghai copper spot market, on the demand side, night session copper prices rose, reducing downstream acceptance and pulling back intraday buying – a sign of price sensitivity. The front-month contango widened to 180-110 yuan/t, encouraging holders to firm up offers and limiting spot discounts. However, consumption in northern regions (Gansu, Shanxi, Henan) softened, with some smelters reshipping to Shanghai, pointing to higher east China supply ahead. SMM data shows Shanghai social inventories at 188.0kt, down 2.8kt w/w but destocking slowed notably, reflecting weak buying appetite at current prices.
