【SMM Steel】EU agrees to cut steel imports by nearly half

【SMM Steel】The EU reached a preliminary agreement to cut steel imports by nearly half and impose a 50% tariff on volumes exceeding quota limits. Duty-free imports will be capped at ~18.3 Mt/y, a ~47% reduction from 2024. The measure aims to raise EU steelmakers' capacity utilization from ~65% to 80%. The sector has lost ~100,000 jobs since 2008.
