SMM News, January 30:
According to SMM statistics, overseas aluminum production in January 2026 increased by 1.9% YoY; new aluminum projects in Indonesia continued to ramp up, and the overseas daily average production rose by 0.5% MoM.
On January 15, the inauguration ceremony for Angola's first aluminum smelter was officially held, marking the project's official entry into the production and operation phase.
Looking ahead to February 2026, the operating capacity of newly commissioned aluminum projects in Indonesia and Angola is expected to continue climbing, and daily average aluminum production is anticipated to maintain an upward trend.
In January 2026, the SMM A00 aluminum monthly average price was 24,085.5 yuan/mt, with industry average profit estimated near 8,000 yuan/mt; the LME closing price monthly average was $3,153.05/mt, and aluminum profits in Indonesia were estimated around $1,000/mt. Ample profit margins are accelerating the commissioning progress of new aluminum projects both domestically and overseas, as well as the resumption of idle capacity. Subsequent attention should remain on production dynamics at Mozambique's aluminum smelters and the commissioning progress of new aluminum projects in Indonesia.
