[SMM Tin Express: Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix Reportedly Negotiate with Apple to Significantly Raise LPDDR Memory Prices for iPhones]

Published: Jan 28, 2026 09:00
According to industry sources, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have engaged in negotiations with Apple and decided to significantly raise the price of LPDDR memory used in iPhones. Recently, massive investments in AI infrastructure by global internet giants and startups have driven a surge in DRAM demand, leading to substantial price increases for memory products such as LPDDR5. At the same time, major DRAM producers are shifting a large portion of their capacity to HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) dedicated to AI applications, further exacerbating the shortage of consumer-grade DRAM. Against this backdrop, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix chose to negotiate with Apple and significantly raised the price of LPDDR memory supplied for iPhones in Q1 of this year. Specifically, Samsung Electronics increased prices by more than 80%, while SK Hynix approached 100%.

Canadian exploration company Eloro Resources (TSX: ELO) announced that the tin resources at its Iska Iska polymetallic (silver-zinc-tin-gold) deposit in Bolivia have more than doubled. According to the company’s report, the tin content of the deposit has increased by 107.7% compared to the 2023 Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE). With total contained tin resources now reaching 290,000 metal tonnes at a grade of 0.03% Sn, it ranks as the fourth-largest tin resource in South America. Geologically, the tin resources are primarily concentrated in two key mineralized domains. The majority is located within the Polymetallic Domain 2 (containing 145,000 tonnes at 0.02% Sn) and the Tin Domain (containing 62,000 tonnes at 0.20% Sn). The company has also upgraded portions of the silver, zinc, and lead

[SMM Tin News Flash: PT Timah Q1 Production Up 82% YoY]
Indonesian state-owned tin producer PT Timah achieved refined tin production of 5,630 mt in Q1 2026, a significant increase of 81.9% YoY. During the same period, PT Timah's refined tin sales volume was 6,009 mt at an average price of $49,221/mt, generating revenue of 5.47 trillion Indonesian rupiah (approximately 2.291 billion yuan), up 160.5% YoY. According to the company's report, tin-in-ore production from its onshore and offshore operations reached 6,312 mt in Q1, up 96.3% YoY. The company attributed this growth to improved production efficiency, an increased number of operating vessels within permitted areas, and higher production from cooperative onshore mines (including small-scale mines and onshore suction dredge pontoon operations). Improved security conditions in mining areas also strongly supported production growth, effectively reducing the impact of illegal mining.
