A report released on April 13 said new progress has been made in the application and promotion of hydrogen energy vehicles in China. Previously, hydrogen energy vehicles in China were widely used in commercial vehicles such as buses, logistics vehicles and heavy trucks. Now, the layout of major domestic car companies in the field of hydrogen energy vehicles has been significantly accelerated and applied to the passenger car market.
Data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) showed that in 2022, the production and sales of hydrogen energy vehicles in China reached 3,626 and 3,367 units respectively, with a year-on-year growth of 105.4% and 112.8%.
According to another annual report released by the New Energy Vehicle National Data Alliance, by the end of 2022, the national monitoring and management platform for new energy vehicles had accessed a total of 10,564 units of hydrogen energy vehicles, among them, 3,858 units are public transport buses, accounting for 80%; followed by 595 road buses, 274 commuter buses and 83 tourist buses.
The industry generally believes that hydrogen energy vehicles have the advantages of zero-emission, high efficiency, long driving range, high load capacity and fast refuelling. Besides, they are superior to pure electric vehicles in three scenarios, including fixed route, medium and long-distance transportation and high load capacity. In this case, buses and logistics vehicles with relatively fixed routes and high load capacity are more suitable as a test field for technology promotion.
