[hundreds of billions of electric bicycles lithium electricity market ushered in mandatory national standards! A landmark event in the development of the electric bicycle market is the implementation of the "Safety Technical Specification for Electric Bicycle" on April 15, 2019 (referred to as the "new national standard"). After the implementation of the new national standard, market data show that China's lithium battery shipments for two-wheeled vehicles in 2020 were 9.7 GWH, an increase of 76% over the same period last year. Some institutions predict that the average annual compound growth of lithium battery shipments of two-wheeled vehicles in China will exceed 25% in the next five years.

However, in terms of standardized management, there are still inferior lithium batteries flowing into the electric bicycle market, resulting in frequent fire incidents of electric bicycles.

In this context, recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has openly solicited opinions on the mandatory national standard formulation project of the "Safety requirements for Lithium Ion batteries for Electric bicycles". The deadline for soliciting opinions is March 19.

The drafting units of the compulsory national standard of "Safety requirements for Lithium Ion batteries for Electric bicycles" are: Wuxi Inspection and Certification Institute, Xingheng Power supply Co., Ltd., Dongguan Xinnengan Technology Co., Ltd., Tianneng Shuai Fude Energy Co., Ltd., China Institute of Electronic Technology Standardization.

Electric bicycle battery accidents occur frequently

Fire accidents of electric bicycles due to unsafe batteries are frequently reported.

It was reported on Feb. 22 that a fire caused by spontaneous combustion of an electric bicycle battery occurred in a residential building in Liguo Town, Ledong County, Hainan Province, causing burns to three residents upstairs. It is understood that the fire was due to the spontaneous combustion of the battery of an electric bicycle parked at the entrance of the corridor. Due to the rapid fire, the entrance of the corridor was sealed by thick smoke, resulting in three residents (2 children and one adult) upstairs who were eager to escape were burned by the fire.

On February 20, an electric bicycle shed caught fire in a clothing factory in Xiangcheng County, Xuchang. The cause of the fire is still under further investigation.

On February 8, a fire broke out in a house in Putuo, Shanghai, killing three people. It is initially believed that the fire was caused by a failure of lithium-ion batteries for electric bicycles placed in the bedroom.

This is the tip of the iceberg when electric bicycles caught fire in February 2022. Statistics show that from January to October 2021, there were more than 14000 fires caused by electric bicycles across the country, with more than 100 deaths and injuries.

The mandatory national standard of safety requirements for lithium-ion batteries for electric bicycles arrived late.

The market believes that the mandatory national standard formulation plan for the "safety requirements for lithium-ion batteries for electric bicycles" is about to be officially released, which will certainly promote a major reshuffle in the electric vehicle lithium battery industry, which will greatly benefit head-regulated enterprises, while small assembly factories are estimated to be doomed, and the standardized development of lithium batteries will make the electric bicycle industry usher in a new round of outbreak.

Head standardized enterprises entered one after another.

Let's take a look at two sets of data:

First, as early as 2018, when the "new national standard" had not yet been implemented, the market penetration rate of lithium electric bicycles was 18%, and the annual production and sales volume exceeded 7 million, an increase of about 25% over the same period last year.

Second, with the approach of the transition period of the "new national standard", about 250 million over-standard two-wheeled electric vehicles will face withdrawal and replacement from 2021.

If 7 million lithium-ion bicycles are converted into the amount of batteries installed, it is estimated that the average electricity consumption of a car is 7 million * 0.6KWh=4.2GWh according to the 0.6KWh of the average electricity consumption of a car. In other words, at least 4.2GWh lithium batteries will be used in the bicycle market in 2018.

If 250 million e-bikes are converted into batteries, the market size is 250 million * 0.6KWh=180GWh.

According to the price of lithium battery for bicycles is 0.6 yuan / WH, (4.2GWh+180GWh) * 0.6 yuan = 110.52 billion yuan.

Obviously, the market size of lithium electricity for electric bicycles exceeds 100 billion.

In the face of such a big market, powerful battery companies are providing better products to ensure safety.

Xing Heng Power, one of the drafting units, will achieve global sales of 5 million sets of lithium batteries for electric bicycles in 2021 and launch the operating brand "Chengman Power". It is understood that Chengmandian has successfully landed and operated in more than 10 cities.

Xinnengan, one of the drafting units, launched a new generation of safety lithium battery-"Zhi'an" series of safety lithium electricity in October 2021 to build a high-safety mini-car travel technology plan. It is understood that Xinneng an's investigation of battery failure found that overcharging, mechanical damage caused by thermal runaway of the core, and electrical short circuit caused by water intake are the top three causes, so targeted research and development have been carried out: by further improving the algorithm accuracy of the self-developed BMS system, optimizing IP67 waterproof design, and meeting the automotive safety test (GB 38031) to verify the anti-thermal diffusion performance. And the anti-mechanical damage performance higher than the national recommended standard (GB/T 36972-2018 "Lithium Electronic Battery for Electric Bicycle") ensures that the "Zhi'an" series of batteries can meet the safety of users in a variety of complex environments, such as bumpy road conditions, traffic accidents, rainy season wading, overcharging and other complex environments.

Tianneng Shuai Fude, one of the drafting units, has launched lithium electricity products for electric bicycles such as lithium iron phosphate. From the safety point of view, Tianneng Shuaifod will provide aviation-grade battery products to improve the safety and reliability of second-round products; invest in smart battery systems to provide more high-quality power travel solutions; and strengthen after-sales service.

In addition to the continuous efforts of the drafting units in the lithium electricity market for electric bicycles, more powerful players are also optimistic about and enter this market:

Ningde era: it has joined hands with Hello to launch the Hello power exchange service and lay out two rounds of basic energy network; at the same time, hand in hand with Yadi to promote the two-wheeled vehicle power exchange cooperation project in Zhaoqing.

Yiwei Lithium Energy: it has publicly said that it will launch large cylindrical lithium iron phosphate batteries for the two-wheel electric vehicle market.

Bick Battery: in 2020, Bick Battery has provided hundreds of millions of cylindrical cells for two-round travel, with complete manufacturing capabilities from cells to power systems in light travel and intelligent terminal applications. In the field of electric bicycles, in-depth cooperation with Hello Chuxing, Didi, Meituan and so on.

Penghui Energy: on August 25, 2021, Penghui Energy released a full range of new products suitable for two-wheeled and three-wheeled electric vehicles. In terms of capacity planning for two-wheeled batteries (soft bags and large cylinders), Penghui Energy is deploying capacity upgrades in Zhuhai, Henan and Changzhou, with a planned production capacity of 3 million sets in 2021, 6.4 million sets in 2022 and 9 million sets in 2023.

Bo Liwei: has become a qualified supplier of domestic well-known electric two-wheeler enterprises, such as Mavericks Electric, Yadi Holdings, Emma Technology, Xinri Stock, etc., and has successfully developed Qiulong Technology and other electric off-road motorcycle customers. at the same time, it has also established a stable cooperative relationship with foreign well-known electric bicycle customers from Germany, Romania, Denmark, France and other foreign countries.
