SMM: last night, Didi and BYD jointly launched a car model D1 specifically for the ride-hailing scene, which will be launched in Changsha in December. The most distinctive feature of the new car is the asymmetrical door design, which is opened by a side sliding door on the right. In terms of power, the car consists of a motor + lithium iron phosphate blade battery and a NEDC mileage of 418km.

In fact, the release of D1 has been planned for a long time, the project conducted user research and product definition, product prototype design in 2018, and completed mass production development in 2019. The D1, jointly designed and developed by Didi and BYD, is the first customized ride-hailing car for the project and the first generation of shared travel vehicles.

According to the press conference, D1 has been improved from both software and hardware. Another difference between D1 and traditional cars is that D1 does not pay by the whole car but by kilometers, and it can only be shared. If users want to get a D1, they need to register as a Didi driver first.

D1 is specially designed for users and drivers, not only to make some improvements in the framework of traditional cars, but also to connect the car and Didi platform, through a 10.1-inch screen to achieve integrated operation of the car network. The driver receives the order with one button through the "Didi button", so there is no need to use the mobile phone to receive the order during driving.

In terms of safety, D1 is equipped with an AEB system, which brakes automatically when it encounters obstacles to ensure the safety of the passengers. This is the first time to use AEB system in the same class car, and it is also the first ride-hailing car equipped with AEB system.

Based on consumer feedback, it is expected to iterate through a version every 18 months. According to a research report by Citic Securities New Energy Automobile team yesterday, D1 plans to launch a new version of D3Accord D4 by 2025, with a new generation of shared cars popularizing more than 1 million cars on Didi platform and equipped with self-driving systems. There will be no cockpit and a mature L4 unmanned system by 2030.

For the original intention of launching D1, Didi hopes to solve urban congestion and other problems through shared car D1 and shared travel.

Industry insiders said that Didi and the whole car factory cooperation online car customization, is the in-depth promotion of the travel industry chain. In addition to meeting the convenience of users' travel, Didi integrates the upstream industrial chain and uses user travel big data to influence or change the upstream traditional automobile design and production to realize the ecological closed loop of the industrial chain.

China's fuel cell vehicle sales hit a record high in Dec 2025 (3,500+ units), but plunged to under 100 in early 2026. The year-end surge was driven by subsidy deadline deliveries, not real demand. As the 15th Five-Year Plan shifts from purchase subsidies to usage-based incentives, the industry must now focus on cost reduction and commercial viability.

China Automobile Dealers Association: Auto Consumption Index at 81 in May, Up Slightly WoW
The China Automobile Dealers Association released the latest "Automobile Consumption Index": the Automobile Consumption Index in May 2026 was 81, a slight increase MoM, and the automobile market is expected to maintain a relatively stable operating trend in June. According to the association's analysis, the automobile market in June exhibited a structural divergence pattern characterized by "cooling demand, declining foot traffic, and strengthening transactions." The fading of holiday dividends and the impact of high temperatures led to pullbacks in both new demand and offline foot traffic, and overall market momentum slowed down compared to the concentrated surge in May. However, dealers are expected to ramp up mid-year sales promotions, and the concentrated conversion of previously accumulated intent orders will continue to drive up end-user transactions.
