SHANGHAI, Jul 18 (SMM) – Some 73,800 mt of copper scrap received the green light in the latest and 16th batch of approvals for restricted solid scrap imports, SMM learned from the recent release by the solid waste management centre of China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE).
Most of the 31 companies, which were involved with copper scrap imports, were located in Ningbo, east China. Ningbo’s approved volumes accounted for 75% of the overall volumes in this batch.
The 16th batch brought the total approved copper scrap imports this year to 715,400 mt, down some 76.2% from the volumes approved in a total of 11 batches last year.
Copper scrap imports approved in last batch, the 15th, marked the largest volume so far this year.
SMM expects more approvals this year as the MEE releases approvals every quarter. The final batch of approvals last year was released on May 23, 2017.
