Russia pig iron exports drop sharply in July

Russia’s pig iron exports totaled 230,000 tons in July this year.

MOSCOW (Scrap Monster): According to recently released data by the Russian Trade Statistics, the pig iron exports by Russia during the month of July this year dropped significantly when compared with the exports during same month a year before. Also, the exports were down sharply when matched with the month before.

Russia’s pig iron exports totaled 230,000 tons in July this year. The total exports were down significantly by 35.9% over the previous year. The country’s pig iron exports had totaled 359,000 tons during the same month in 2015. Also, the country’s pig iron exports in July ’16 tumbled by nearly 64% relative to the prior month. Russia’s pig iron exports had totaled 634,000 tons during June this year.

The largest importer of Russian pig iron during July ‘16 was the United States with 137,000 tons. The exports to the US declined considerably by nearly 35% when compared with the exports of 209,000 tons during the same month in 2015. The exports to the US accounted for nearly 60% of the total pig iron exports by Russia during the month. The second largest importer was Taiwan. The imports by Taiwan witnessed marginal decline over the previous year. The exports dropped by 4.4% from 31,500 tons in July last year to 30,000 tons in July ‘16. The top two importing nations accounted for more than 72% of the total pig iron shipments out of Russia during July ‘16.

The cumulative pig iron exports by the country during the initial seven-month period of the current year totaled 2.89 million tons, marginally higher when compared with the exports during the corresponding seven-month period in 2015.

Exports-June ‘16                                                                                          

Russia exported 634,000 tons of pig iron during the month. Spain with imports of 175,000 tons, was the key export destination. The second largest importer was the US. The imports by the US witnessed significant decline over the previous year. The exports tumbled by 65% from 408,000 tons in June last year to 143,000 tons in June ‘16. The top two importing nations accounted for more than 50% of the total pig iron shipments out of Russia during June ‘16.

Exports-May ‘16                                                                                          

Russia exported 445,673 tons of pig iron during the month. The US with imports of 280,574 tons, was the key export destination. The other main importers of Russian pig iron during the month were Italy (32,573 tons), Slovenia (28,556 tons), Taiwan (20,456 tons), Germany (17,703 tons) and Turkey (12,638 tons).

Exports-Apr ‘16

The pig iron exports by Russia during the month totaled 388,991 tons. The largest importer was the US with imports totaling 250,089 tons in April this year. The other key export destinations were Turkey (38,881 tons), Italy (32,573 tons) and Belarus (26,378 tons).

Meantime, the country’s iron ore exports rose over 50% year-on-year to 1.413 million tons. The export prices averaged at $60 per ton during the month, rising by almost 35% in comparison with the previous year. The largest export destination of Russian iron ore was China. The exports to China totaled 602,000 tons. The other key importers of Russian iron ore during July ’16 were Slovakia (343,000 tons) and Poland (120,000). The cumulative exports during the initial seven-month period of the year have dropped sharply by 17.1% to 10.358 million tons.

Also, Russian Trade Statistics figures suggest that the country’s nickel exports to outside of CIS countries totaled 1.146 million tons during the first seven months of 2016. This is slightly higher by over 4% when matched with the corresponding period last year. The nickel exports to CIS region increased marginally b 1% over the year to total 200 tons.

Le 21 septembre, Korea Zinc a annoncé que son projet manufacturier américain de 7,4 milliards de dollars avait passé l'évaluation d'impact environnemental. Le 9 septembre 2026, l'Australie a lancé son deuxième réexamen au titre du crépuscule des mesures antidumping visant les tôles d'acier galvanisé originaires d'Inde, de Malaisie et du Vietnam, et a ouvert séparément un réexamen au titre du crépuscule des mesures compensatoires sur les importations en provenance d'Inde. Le réexamen couvre la période juillet 2025-juin 2026, le rapport final étant attendu pour le 11 février 2027. L'acier galvanisé étant le principal secteur d'utilisation finale du zinc, ces mesures affectent directement les coûts d'exportation et la compétitivité, avec un impact potentiel sur la demande intérieure de zinc et la chaîne d'approvisionnement en Australie. Le maintien des droits offrirait une certaine protection aux capacités nationales de production d'acier et de revêtement, tandis que leur suppression pourrait accroître les importations à bas prix et affecter la consommation régionale de zinc. L'issue finale reste soumise à la décision des autorités.
