[Google is reportedly in talks with Samsung to jointly develop next-generation chips]

According to The Information, amid the current manufacturing capacity shortage, chip companies are actively seeking suppliers other than TSMC. Google (GOOG.O) is reportedly considering having Samsung Electronics play a key role in producing its most advanced future AI chips. The report states that Google is in talks with Samsung to use Samsung's 2nm process to manufacture some components of its next-generation TPU, codenamed "Icefish." A partnership with Google could boost Samsung's standing in the advanced chip manufacturing sector.

The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) released its latest Global Semiconductor Equipment Market Statistics Report on June 11. Data showed that in Q1 2026, global semiconductor equipment sales reached $36.55 billion, up 1% QoQ and 14% YoY, hitting a record high for a single quarter. Region-wise, South Korea surpassed Taiwan, China, to rank second globally. SEMI stated that the semiconductor equipment market in Q1 of this year continued to benefit from the investment wave in artificial intelligence, with global semiconductor enterprises increasing their capacity expansion and technological upgrades. These investments were mainly directed at advanced logic processes, dynamic random-access memory (DRAM), and advanced packaging, continuously boosting the equipment market size higher.
