Guinea to Announce Bauxite Export Controls to Boost Prices Amid Oversupply Concerns

Published: May 26, 2026 09:12
Guinea, the world's largest bauxite-producing country, plans to announce reform measures next month to impose export controls on the ore in a bid to boost prices. Guinea accounts for more than one-third of global bauxite production. Bouna Sylla, Guinea's Minister of Mines and Geology, recently stated that this had led to oversupply in the market, with bauxite prices nearly halving from their highs at the beginning of last year. "Supply must not exceed demand. We hope to regulate exports to allow prices to rebound to a reasonable level."
