[SMM Analysis] Lacking Drivers for Wild Swings, GO Silicon Steel Prices to Run Steadily Next Week

[Lacking Drivers for Wild Swings, GO Silicon Steel Prices Expected to Run Steadily Next Week] Cold-rolled grain-oriented silicon steel spot prices ran steadily this week, with mainstream quotations remaining firm and overall transactions proceeding in a stable and orderly manner. According to market feedback, although ferrous metals futures fluctuated downward, exerting some pressure on market sentiment, Baosteel's price-firming policy for June—raising the base price of GO silicon steel by 200 yuan/mt and adding an additional 100 yuan/mt for high-grade products rated 75 and above—effectively supported the spot price floor. Traders' quotations were generally stable, with limited willingness to sell at low prices.

GO Silicon Steel Price Update

Shanghai B23R085 grade: 11,800-11,800 yuan/mt

Wuhan 23RK085 grade: 11,600-11,600 yuan/mt

This week, cold-rolled GO silicon steel spot prices remained stable, with mainstream quotations holding firm and overall transactions proceeding in an orderly manner. Market feedback indicated that although ferrous metals futures fluctuated downward, exerting some pressure on market sentiment, Baosteel's June GO silicon steel base price raise of 200 yuan/mt, with an additional 100 yuan/mt for high grades of 75 and above, effectively supported the spot price floor. Traders' quotations were generally stable, with limited willingness to sell at low prices.

Currently, GO silicon steel supply and demand were relatively balanced: on the supply side, mainstream steel mills maintained a controllable shipment pace; on the demand side, downstream transformer and power equipment enterprises had stable rigid demand, supported by power grid projects and export orders, with procurement mainly on an as-needed restocking basis and weak willingness for large-scale restocking. Meanwhile, after earlier market adjustments, further downside room for prices was limited. Traders maintained low inventory levels with a strong wait-and-see sentiment, operating mainly on a quick-in-quick-out basis.

Overall, steel mills' determination to hold prices firm was clear, with strong cost and policy support, while downstream demand resilience remained moderate. Supply and demand were slightly loose but without significant pressure, and the market lacked drivers for wild swings. Cold-rolled GO silicon steel spot prices are expected to continue their stable trend next week.

[SMM Analysis] Raw Material Prices See Slight Correction, Stainless Steel Mill Profits Expand This week, both stainless steel production costs and prices pulled back slightly, and steel mill profits expanded accordingly. Using 304 cold-rolled as the calculation benchmark, the current raw material-based profit margin was 2.19%, while the low-level inventory raw material-based profit margin reached 3.67%. Overall industry profitability was moderate, and steel mills therefore maintained high production schedules. On the nickel-based raw material cost side, high-grade NPI prices first declined then rose this week, showing an overall slight pullback. During the week, news emerged that Indonesia planned to unify ferroalloy exports under state-owned enterprise operations. Although stainless steel scrap still held a notable cost-effectiveness advantage and steel mills had a strong desire to bargain down prices, supply uncertainty fueled a strong market sentiment to hold prices firm and hold back from selling, and prices ultimately stopped falling and stabilized. As of this Friday, mainstream high-grade NPI with a grade of 10-12% fell 4.5 yuan per nickel unit, closing at 1,140.5 yuan/nickel unit. Stainless steel scrap market, prices pulled back this week. The decline was driven by the combined impact of multiple bearish factors, including weak spot cargo performance in finished products, steel mills pushing for lower raw material prices, and downward adjustments in molten steel quotes. However, the decline was limited for the following reasons: the tight tax invoice situation was expected to ease, trading pain points were being gradually resolved, and steel mill purchase expectations rose accordingly. In addition, steel scrap held a greater cost-effectiveness advantage over NPI, and coupled with steel mills still being profitable and rigid demand remaining robust, prices were effectively supported. The overall pattern showed "weakening spot cargo, cost support, and recovering expectations," and short-term prices were expected to fluctuate in tandem with finished products, with limited downside room. As of this Friday, mainstream 30 in the Shanghai area...
