This week, HRC social inventory was 2.8688 million mt, down 117,400 mt from the prior period (down 3.93% MoM; up 44.66% YoY; up 34.58% YoY on a lunar-calendar basis).

This week, HRC mill inventory was 1.0021 million mt, up 22,100 mt from the prior period (up 2.26% MoM; down 2.78% YoY; down 8.49% YoY on a lunar-calendar basis).

This week, total HRC inventory was 3.8709 million mt, down 95,200 mt from the prior period (down 2.40% MoM; up 28.44% YoY; up 19.96% YoY on a lunar-calendar basis)

According to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the foreign market producer price index (F-PPI) for Turkey’s basic metal manufacturing industry increased by 3.31% month-on-month in April 2026. Japan's Kobe Steel has announced plans to evaluate the installation of a new, large-scale scrap melting furnace at its flagship Kakogawa Works, aimed at accelerating its low-carbon transition. This project serves as a key initiative to meet its corporate climate target of reducing carbon emissions by 38% by 2030 (compared to 2013 levels). By combining this high-capacity scrap melting technology with existing blast furnace infrastructures, the mill expects to significantly increase its utilization rate of high-grade ferrous scrap, thereby reducing dependency on virgin hot metal and pig iron inputs.
