[SMM Nickel Market Flash] Chinese Scientists Report Ambient-Pressure Nickelate Superconductor with Tc up to 63K
A Chinese research team has reported a nickel-based high-temperature superconductor operating under ambient pressure, with a transition temperature of up to 63K. Two other engineered structures achieved transition temperatures of 50K and 46K. Unlike earlier nickelate superconductor research that generally required extremely high pressure, this study demonstrated superconducting behavior under normal pressure conditions, marking a key advance for nickel-based materials. The researchers also said nickelates could become a third class of high-temperature superconductors alongside cuprates and iron-based systems, potentially opening new paths for lossless power transmission, precision sensing, quantum computing, and future energy and information technologies.
