Spot Premiums Weakened on the Last Trading Day of March [SMM North China Spot Copper]

Today, spot #1 copper cathode in North China was quoted at discounts of 120–60 yuan/mt against the front-month contract, with the average price down 20 yuan/mt from the previous trading day, and the average transaction price up 385 yuan/mt from the previous trading day to 95,565 yuan/mt.

SMM News, March 31:

Today, spot #1 copper cathode in North China was quoted at discounts of 120 yuan/mt to 60 yuan/mt against the front-month contract, with the average price down 20 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. The average transaction price was 95,565 yuan/mt, up 385 yuan/mt from the previous trading day. On the last trading day of March, downstream players faced capital pressure while upstream players had shipment needs, and spot premiums came under pressure. Today, the procurement sentiment for copper cathode in North China was 2.11, down 0.02 from the previous trading day, while shipment sentiment was 2.32, up 0.13 from the previous trading day ().

SMM Morning Meeting Summary: Overnight, LME copper opened at $13,299.5/mt, touched a low of $13,263/mt early in the session before the center fluctuated upward, reached a high of $13,480/mt near the close, and finally settled at $13,470.5/mt, up 2.4%, with trading volume at 22,000 lots and open interest at 275,000 lots, down 4,026 lots from the previous trading day, indicating bears reducing positions. Overnight, the most-traded SHFE copper 2606 contract opened at 102,620 yuan/mt, touched a low of 102,490 yuan/mt early in the session, then the center rose to a high of 104,000 yuan/mt, and finally moved sideways to close at 103,900 yuan/mt, up 1.23%, with trading volume at 73,000 lots and open interest at 220,000 lots, up 15,806 lots from the previous trading day, indicating bulls increasing positions.

The assets include an operating underground mine, a processing plant, and exploration projects, covering a total area of approximately 1,800 square kilometers, and have been consolidated and rebranded as "CoreX Copper Brazil." This transaction was limited to equity and brand changes. Since the closing on April 2, 2026, operations, contracts, permits, and partnerships in Brazil have remained unchanged.
