[Li Auto and Sunwoda to set up 50:50 battery JV; “Li Auto-branded” cells to hit the road next year] Li Auto and Chinese battery maker Sunwoda have agreed to form a joint venture on a 50:50 equity basis. The new company has already been filed for public disclosure with the Shanghai Market Supervision Administration. According to the filing, the two shareholders are Beijing Li Auto Co., Ltd. and Sunwoda Power Technology Co., Ltd. The JV—registered as Shandong Li Auto Battery Co., Ltd.—will focus on the production, manufacturing and sale of lithium-ion traction batteries for electric vehicles. It will build Li Auto’s self-developed battery pack, which is scheduled to power Li Auto vehicles starting next year.
