Under the terms of the deal, Rock Tech will supply battery-grade lithium hydroxide from its forthcoming refinery in Guben, Germany, to Ronbay's cathode manufacturing facility in Konin, Poland. This vertical integration creates a seamless supply chain that reduces reliance on imports and shortens delivery times for European battery manufacturers.

Rock Tech Lithium Inc. and China's Ronbay Technology announced today a strategic partnership to establish Europe's first fully integrated lithium-ion battery supply chain, from raw material processing to cathode production. The agreement marks a significant step in localizing battery materials production to meet growing European demand.

Ronbay has committed to providing technical expertise and potential financial investment to support the development of Rock Tech's Guben lithium converter, which is scheduled to begin operations in 2026. The German facility's strategic location near the Polish border enables close coordination with Ronbay's cathode plant, forming a production corridor that spans both countries.

The Chinese cathode producer has been preparing its European manufacturing base since acquiring Johnson Matthey's former facility in Poland. The site's first production line, capable of manufacturing 25,000 metric tons of high-nickel cathode materials annually, is currently undergoing equipment installation and is expected to commence commercial production in 2026.

This partnership represents a strategic response to Europe's push for greater supply chain independence in battery materials. By combining Rock Tech's lithium processing capabilities with Ronbay's cathode manufacturing expertise, the alliance aims to provide European automakers with a reliable, locally-sourced alternative to imported battery components.

The timing of the agreement coincides with the European Union's efforts to implement its Critical Raw Materials Act, which sets ambitious targets for domestic processing of battery materials. Industry analysts note that this partnership positions both companies favorably to benefit from upcoming regulatory changes.
