Lundin Mining Plans to Rank Among Top 10 Global Copper Companies

According to SMM, Lundin Mining, a Canadian mining company, has unveiled a strategic growth plan aimed at propelling the company into the top 10 global copper producers. The company stated that it plans to achieve an annual production capacity of 500,000 mt of copper and 550,000 ounces of gold within three to five years. The strategy focuses on the expansion of its core assets in Candelaria and Caserones, Chile, as well as the Caserones project in Brazil. CEO Jack Lundin said that the company is entering an exciting new phase of growth, thanks to a clear path to increase copper production through low-cost project expansions. The company is advancing several low-capital-intensity projects, and it is expected that annual production will increase by 30,000-40,000 mt in the medium term.

Chile is the world's largest copper-producing country. Data released on Friday by Chile's National Bureau of Statistics (INE) showed that the country's copper production in April declined 13.8% YoY.According to official data, Chile's copper production in April was 399,954 mt, compared with 464,056 mt in the same period last year. The production decline was mainly attributable to a high base in the same period last year and lower ore grades at major miners.In addition, metal products production fell 15.4% YoY, further dragging down the overall performance of the manufacturing sector.

Market conditions for copper and various by-products improved during the quarter, but the company's own production declined.From January to March, the company's own copper mine production reached 272,000 mt of concentrates, down 8.1% compared to the same period in 2025.
