BYD boasts 38.7% YoY leap in Jan.-May 2025 vehicle sales

For the first five months of the year, BYD sold a total of 1,763,369 vehicles; in May, BYD reported sales of 382,476 new vehicles.

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD Company Limited ("BYD") reported sales of 382,476 new vehicles for the month of May 2025, marking a year-on-year jump of 15.27% and also showing a slight month-on-month growth of 0.63%.

For the first five months of the year, BYD sold a total of 1,763,369 vehicles, which leapt 38.7% from the year-ago period.

Of the new vehicles sold last month, passenger vehicle sales amounted to 376,930 units, a 14.05% increase compared to the prior-year period and a month-on-month growth of 1.16%.

Breaking down the passenger vehicle sales by powertrain solutions, battery electric vehicles accounted for 204,369 units, reflecting a year-on-year surge of 39.6%, and also indicating a month-on-month increase of 4.41%, contributing 54.22% to BYD's overall passenger vehicle sales. Meanwhile, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle sales came in at 172,561 units, showing a year-on-year drop of 6.26% and also posting a 2.44% month-on-month dip.

Additionally, BYD announced that its overseas sales of new energy passenger vehicles and pick-up trucks reached 88,640 units in the fifth month of 2025, marking a year-on-year spike of 133.6%.

Breaking the monthly sales down by brands and product series, the Dynasty and Ocean series together sold 348,393 vehicles in May, displaying a rise of 10.5% from the year-ago period. The DENZA brand recorded sales of 15,806 vehicles (+29.3% YoY), while the FANGCHENGBAO and YANGWANG brands logged sales of 12,592 units (+418.2% YoY) and 139 units, respectively.

The company also sold 5,546 commercial vehicles last month, which skyrocketed 317.31% over a year earlier but decreased 25.8% over a month ago.
