During the day, the most-traded SHFE lead 2503 contract opened at 17,175 yuan/mt, briefly touched a high of 17,230 yuan/mt in early trading before plunging to a low of 17,100 yuan/mt, and then traded within a narrow range towards the close, finally settling at 17,160 yuan/mt, up by 0.41%, with an open interest of 43,034 lots. As the Lantern Festival holiday approaches, downstream battery producers and lead smelters are expected to resume production in large numbers. With both supply and demand increasing, attention should be paid to the impact of lead ingot social inventory digestion on lead prices.
