On February 3, 2025, the Philippine Senate passed a bill prohibiting the export of raw ore, aiming to promote local industrial development, increase product value-added, and create more job opportunities.
The bill, numbered Senate Bill No. 2826, will take effect five years after being officially signed into law. Philippine Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero stated that this policy is similar to Indonesia's approach.
According to SMM, the bill is currently under review by the bicameral committee and has not yet been signed into law. SMM will continue to monitor the progress of this development.
