Sodium-Ion Energy Storage: China Southern Power Grid Successfully Commissioned the First Distributed Sodium-Ion Battery Energy Storage System in the Distribution Network in Binyang County, Nanning City, Guangxi
On November 30, 2024, China Southern Power Grid successfully commissioned the first distributed sodium-ion battery energy storage system in the distribution network at No. 3 Gula Street, Binyang County, Nanning City, Guangxi. The system has a power capacity of 50MW and an energy storage capacity of 100MWh. Each energy storage unit has a capacity of 50KW and can store 100KWh of electricity, capable of continuous charging/discharging for 2 hours at full power. Compared to lithium-ion energy storage, it has better environmental adaptability and lower maintenance costs, with an energy conversion efficiency of over 90%.
