Beijing (Gasgoo)- On October 24, FAW Audi announced the plan to introduce the new Audi A5 family to China, including four models: the A5 Sedan, S5 Sedan, A5 Avant, and S5 Avant. Alongside these, FAW Audi will debut the new China-made A5L, a model tailored for the Chinese market.

Following Audi’s latest design language, the A5 family will come with the dual-screen setup—an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch central touchscreen, complemented by a 10.9-inch entertainment display for the front passenger. Interior tech upgrades include a modern flat-bottomed three-spoke steering wheel, compact electronic gear lever, and window control switches to boost a futuristic feel.

For smart driving, the new Audi A5L will feature a custom intelligent driving system co-developed with Huawei, built on the Huawei ADS 2.0 architecture with Audi-specific tuning. This system is undergoing local testing. The model will be globally unveiled at the Auto Guangzhou 2024.

Under the hood, the new A5L will be powered by Audi's fifth-generation EA888 2.0T engine and a 48V mild-hybrid system, with three power configurations expected to suit various driving needs. The powertrain is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, balancing performance and efficiency.

Toyota Motor Corporation has decided to halt the development of its next-generation battery electric vehicles, specifically targeting a sedan model for its luxury brand Lexus that was originally planned to commence production in mid-2027. This vehicle, featuring fast-charging capabilities and longer cruising range, was showcased at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023. Initially planned for market launch in 2026, its production start was later postponed to 2027. Over the past year, Toyota's global electric vehicle sales exceeded 190,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 42.4%. However, the decision by the Trump administration in the US to eliminate tax incentives for electric vehicle purchases has created adverse market conditions.
