【The People's Bank of China Initiates Treasury Bond Trading: Four Key Observations with Far-reaching Implications】: The long-anticipated operation of treasury bond trading in the open market by the People's Bank of China (PBOC) has finally commenced, with a net bond purchase of RMB 100 billion in August. According to the PBOC's announcement, four key aspects are worthy of attention: Firstly, this new tool involves a two-way operation of both buying and selling treasury bonds. Secondly, the PBOC's treasury bond trading in August exhibited a characteristic of "buying short-term and selling long-term." Thirdly, as one of the liquidity management tools, open market treasury bond trading may gradually replace the Medium-term Lending Facility (MLF), further diminishing the role of MLF. Lastly, the PBOC's future treasury bond trading operations may be announced monthly.
