[India Requires Colored Metal Products Produced in the Future to Contain at Least 5% of Recycled Metals] The Indian government announced on August 30 that all newly produced colored metal products (aluminum, copper, and zinc) must contain at least 5% of recycled metals starting from the 2027-28 fiscal year. Furthermore, this percentage will gradually increase in the future, with the recycled metal content in aluminum rising to 10%, copper to 20%, and zinc to 25%. This regulation is part of India's Second Amendment Rules of 2024 to the Hazardous Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) and Other Wastes, which will officially take effect on April 1, 2025, and specifies the implementation dates for the aforementioned production requirements. This move aims to reduce dependence on primary resources, mitigate the environmental impact of mining, and promote the development of India's scrap metal recycling industry.
