Due to ongoing power shortages, New Zealand's Tiwai Point Aluminum Smelter is Forced to Reduce Production Again" — News on August 20th: The Tiwai Point Aluminum Smelter has further reduced its power consumption by 20MW to alleviate the energy crisis of New Zealand's national grid. Earlier in late July, the plant had already reduced its power consumption by 185MW as required to address the shortage of power supply caused by declining water levels during winter. With this, the total 205MW of power released by the plant will save 4.4% of the country's energy consumption. Currently, the Tiwai Point plant has an annual production capacity of approximately 345,000 tonnes, and this power reduction is expected to result in a decrease in aluminum production by approximately 125,000 tonnes.
