Beijing (Gasgoo)- On June 27, Chinese automaker Geely launched its new-generation self-developed blade-style lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, the Aegis short-blade battery. The innovative short-blade design boasts significant advancements in safety, cycle life, fast-charging capabilities, and low-temperature discharge performance.

The new Aegis short-blade battery features a compact design, which enhances safety and improves the flexibility of the battery pack layout. It also increases the energy density of blade-style LFP batteries to nearly 200Wh/kg. This makes it widely adaptable for various vehicle types, including sedans, commercial vehicles, SUVs, and MPVs. Notbaly, Geely disclosed that the Galaxy E5 smart all-electric SUV under its Galaxy new energy range, will be the first to feature this new battery.

During the launch event, Geely also revealed the Aegis battery’s safety system test results. The battery pack successfully passed the industry's first six rigorous serial tests. These tests included dynamic seawater corrosion immersion, extreme cold at high altitudes, high-frequency scraping, 26-ton reciprocal crushing, single-pack side pillar impact, and intense flame grilling. The Aegis Battery's performance in these tests sets a new standard for power battery safety.
