[News Flash: Samsung Seeking a Loan of 5 Trillion Korean Won for Chip Investment]
According to insiders, Samsung Electronics is seeking to borrow up to 5 trillion Korean Won (about $3.6 billion) from Korea Development Bank (KBD) to fund its project of building more chip production facilities in South Korea and overseas. Currently, both parties are in the final stage of negotiations on the specific loan size and interest rate. This loan is part of the South Korean government's plan to implement a 17 trillion Korean Won low-interest loan program starting next month, aimed at supporting the domestic semiconductor industry. If the transaction is completed, it will be the first time in 20 years that Samsung has borrowed a huge amount of funds. In addition, SK Hynix is also considering borrowing up to 3 trillion Korean Won from Korea Development Bank for its chip investment. (Korean Economic Daily)
