[SMM Steel Shipping] China's total exports fell by 19% WoW from May 18 to May 24

I. Domestic Steel Shipping

1. Shipment Data

Last week (May 18-May 24)

SMM's total steel shipments from national ports were 7.9088 million mt, up 455,700 mt or 6% WoW. Among them, the total shipments from the six major northern ports (Jingtang Port, Caofeidian, Bayuquan, Tianjin New Port, Huanghua Port, Jinzhou Port) were 2.5463 million mt, up 444,600 mt WoW, accounting for 32% of the total shipments. The total shipments from the three major ports in east China (Shanghai Port, Zhangjiagang, Lanbei Port) were 710,400 mt, up 13,360 mt WoW, accounting for 9% of the total shipments. The total shipments from the two major ports in South China (Zhanjiang Port, Fangchenggang) were 340,000 mt, down 73,800 mt WoW, accounting for 4% of the total shipments.
2. Port Arrivals Data

Last week (May 18-May 24)

China's total steel arrivals were 7.904 million mt, up 894,900 mt WoW, an increase of 13%. Among them, the total port arrivals at 13 main ports in East China were 5.3754 million mt, up 978,700 mt WoW, accounting for 68% of this week's total port arrivals. The total port arrivals at Guangzhou Port in South China were 243,200 mt, down 126,000 mt WoW, accounting for 3% of this week's total port arrivals.

II. Steel Foreign Trade Shipping

1. Shipment Data

Last week (May 18-May 24)

The total steel shipments from global ports (excluding China) were 1.8739 million mt, up 0.1% WoW. The total steel shipments from Chinese ports were 2.0928 million mt, down 19% WoW.

By product type:

Global port shipments of steel plates were 166,000 mt, down 4% WoW. Global port shipments of steel coils were 459,000 mt, up 70% WoW. Global port shipments of pig iron were 610,400 mt, down 14% WoW. Global port shipments of steel billets were 347,500 mt, down 21% WoW.

2. Port Arrival Data

Last week (May 18-May 24)

The total steel arrivals at 119 Chinese ports were 53.15 mt, down 64,200 mt or 11% WoW.
