Wang Wenbin, spokesman of Ministry of Foreign Affairs said at a regular press conference that the essence of the Korean Peninsula issue is a political and security issue, rooted in the lingering remnants of the Cold War and the absence of a peace mechanism.

The United States, Japan and South Korea using the peninsula issue as an excuse to strengthen military cooperation will not help resolve the remnants of the Cold War or promote the progress of the peace mechanism on the peninsula. It will only increase the risk of confrontation between regional camps, undermine the fragile mutual trust among all parties, and damage the strategic security interests of other countries.

If the situation on the peninsula has thus slipped into a vicious circle of tense confrontation and an arms race, all parties concerned cannot absolve themselves of the responsibility.
