SMM Nickel analyst Gao Yuan

Gao Yuan, a nickel analyst at SMM, said that with the explosive growth of stainless steel production in China and India in 2021, nickel pig iron has been in a state of tight supply since the second quarter of 2021. Indonesian NPI production is expected to increase by 32 per cent to 1.16 million nickel tons in 2022, with a combined growth rate of 18.2 per cent for China and India. Total global NPI production is expected to increase by 18.2% in 2022 compared with the same period last year.

Li Dongdan, manganese analyst at SMM

Li Dongdan, a manganese analyst at SMM, analyzed the global manganese raw material supply and price expectation in 2021, mainly from three aspects: the analysis of supply and demand structure and price prospect of electrolytic manganese industry in 2021, the evolution of supply and demand of manganese alloy and stainless steel industry in the future, the demand drive of new energy and the interpretation of manganese chemical market. SMM expects the growth rate of manganese sulfate production next year to be flat as a whole to meet the terminal annual demand, so SMM expects that the supply and demand of high-purity manganese sulfate will tend to balance this year and next year. Driven by the ternary market in the future, the demand for high-purity manganese sulfate will continue to increase. It is expected that the domestic spot supply and demand of electrolytic manganese will rise and fall limited by the end of this year, while manganese sulfate will fluctuate slightly and slightly with the expansion of production by individual manufacturers and the general market price of terminal demand at the end of the year.

Li Chuntian, an analyst at SMM

Li Chuntian, an analyst at SMM, reviewed the stainless steel market in 2021 and looked forward to the market in 2022. She said that stainless steel prices fell at a high level in 2021. With the decline in demand growth, production recovered, inventory began to accumulate, raw material prices collectively fell, stainless steel costs moved down, and the current stainless steel production has suffered losses. Looking ahead to 2022, the growth rate of stainless steel consumption is not expected to be particularly pessimistic. According to the 3.5% consumption growth rate, the demand is expected to have a small surplus of 520000 tons of stainless steel next year. However, there is still some uncertainty about the production of new capacity on the supply side.
