LME Aluminium Inventory Dropped to the 14-year Low

According to London Metal Exchange (LME), LME inventories kept falling last week. Since late March, aluminium inventories on the exchange have continued to fall from a high of 1,967,275 mt, and recorded 882,800 mt the latest, a record low in more than 14 years, with a drop of about 55.1%.

SHANGHAI, Dec 6 - According to London Metal Exchange (LME), LME inventories kept falling last week. Since late March, aluminium inventories on the exchange have continued to fall from a high of 1,967,275 mt, and recorded 882,800 mt the latest, a record low in more than 14 years, with a drop of about 55.1%.

Data released by the Shanghai Futures Exchange showed that SHFE aluminium stocks picked up slightly last week and have now increased for three weeks in a row, with weekly stocks increasing by 1.9% to 334,934 mt in the week of December 3, rising to a high in over six months.

Note: Falling SHFE and LME inventories will underpin futures prices.

Overall market trading activity was sluggish. At month-end, the market maintained a steady posture, watching for the outcome of the new round of aluminum fluoride tender prices. However, as the raw material side showed signs of easing, prices are expected to be slightly under pressure next month. Going forward, close attention should continue to be paid to dynamic changes on the raw material cost side, as well as marginal adjustments in the procurement pace of downstream aluminum enterprises.
