On July 29, Zeng Yuqun, chairman of Ningde Times, unveiled its first-generation sodium ion battery. At the same time, Ningde Times Li-Na mixed battery pack also made its debut at the press conference.
Behind the sodium ion battery in Ningde era
From the perspective of material research and development of sodium ion chemical system, in terms of positive materials, the Prussian white material with high gram capacity was used in Ningde era to rearrange the charge of the material phase structure. it solves the problem of rapid capacity attenuation of Prussian white in the process of cycling; in terms of negative materials, Ningde era developed hard carbon materials with unique pore structure, which has the characteristics of high gram capacity, easy de-intercalation and excellent circulation.
Based on the above material system, a reporter from Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily learned that the first generation of sodium ion batteries developed in Ningde era have the advantages of high energy density, high rate charging, excellent thermal stability, good low temperature performance and high integration efficiency.
Specifically, the energy density of the cell is as high as 160Whxxkg; the charge can reach more than 80% after charging for 15 minutes at room temperature; the Discharge retention rate is more than 90% in the low temperature environment of-20 °C. the system integration efficiency can reach more than 80%. The thermal stability far exceeds the safety requirements of the national strong standard.
In response, Zeng Yuqun said at a press conference, "generally speaking, the energy density of the first generation sodium ion battery is slightly lower than that of the current lithium iron phosphate battery, but it has obvious advantages in low temperature performance and fast charging, especially in high power application scenarios in high cold areas."
In the aspect of system innovation, Ningde era developed the solution of AB battery system, that is, sodium-ion battery and lithium-ion battery are mixed and integrated into the same battery system according to a certain proportion, and different battery systems are balanced by BMS precise algorithm.
It is understood that the solution of AB battery system makes up for the deficiency of energy density of sodium ion battery at this stage, and gives full play to its advantages of high power and good low temperature performance. Based on the innovation of the system structure, more application scenarios can be developed for the lithium-sodium battery system.
According to Zeng Yuqun, the research and development goal of the energy density of the next generation of sodium ion batteries in Ningde era is above 200Wh/kg. In addition, Ningde Times said that the company has begun to carry out the industrial layout of sodium ion batteries and plans to form a basic industrial chain in 2023.
Sodium ion battery and lithium ion battery
"the development of sodium-ion batteries is expected to alleviate the limited development of energy storage batteries caused by the shortage and uneven distribution of lithium resources, which can be used as an important supplement to lithium-ion batteries, and can also gradually replace lead-acid batteries that seriously pollute the environment. it has important economic value and strategic significance." In addition, compared with lithium-ion battery, although the energy density of sodium-ion battery is at a disadvantage for the time being, it has unique advantages in power density, wide temperature and cycle life. "
Lark research believes that sodium-ion battery is currently in the early stage of industrialization, it is difficult to compete directly with lithium-ion battery for a long time in the future, and it is more likely to play a complementary and alternative role. And because of its different performance characteristics, its application scenarios are more likely to be non-lithium-ion battery mainstream applications, such as low-speed electric vehicles, partial energy storage, construction machinery, base station communication backup power supply and so on.
In addition, Huaan Securities Research said that the low energy density and resource endowment advantages of sodium electricity determine that its future application scenarios are energy storage and lead-acid substitution, mainly as a supplement to the current lithium power system, and have little impact on the lithium electricity market space. At the same time, sodium electricity has potential raw material cost advantages, but the whole life cycle cost is limited by cycle performance.
What is the market prospect of sodium ion battery
In recent years, the commercialization of sodium ion batteries is accelerating.
Specifically, as early as June 2020, when the 21C laboratory was established in Ningde era, sodium ion battery was regarded as one of the three main research directions in the short and medium term.
In addition, the completed demonstration and application projects of sodium ion battery industrialization include electric bicycles, household energy storage cabinets, low-speed electric vehicles and energy storage power stations. In addition, domestic enterprises that have laid out sodium ion batteries include: Xinwanda has reserved sodium ion battery patents; Huayang has participated in China Science and Technology Sea Sodium, and plans to invest 80 million yuan and 60 million yuan respectively. Used for the construction of 2000 tons of sodium ion battery positive and negative materials projects; and Zhejiang Pharmaceutical has also participated in 40% of sodium innovative energy.
With the continuous research and development of more companies, the industrialization process of sodium ion battery may be further accelerated. However, at present, people in the industry have different views on the development prospects of sodium ion batteries.
Some industry insiders say frankly that the number of enterprises that will develop sodium ion batteries in the future may be only a few. From a technical point of view, sodium ion battery has indeed reached the initial stage of commercial application, but the sodium ion battery industry chain is far from a system at present.
In addition, Hu Yongsheng analyzed to Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily that, "at present, the positioning of sodium-ion batteries is the most economical and high-safety energy storage battery, which can achieve the price of lead-acid batteries and the performance of lithium-ion batteries on a large scale." At present, China's sodium ion battery has reached the international leading level in terms of material system, comprehensive performance, industrialization speed and demonstration application, and has completely independent intellectual property rights. It has the opportunity to take the lead in realizing the industrialization and commercial application of sodium ion batteries all over the world. "
Guangfa Securities Yin central team estimates that the domestic potential application scenario demand for sodium ion batteries in 2025 is 123GWH, which is measured by the price of lithium iron phosphate batteries, corresponding to a market space of about 53.7 billion yuan.
As of today's close, Ningde Times shares rose 6.05% to close at 556.80 yuan per share, with a total market capitalization of 1.3 trillion yuan.
