Major Breakthrough of Alloy element Additives for Aluminum processing Materials

Recently learned from the China International Aluminum Industry Exhibition, Shenzhen Xinxing Light Alloy material Co., Ltd. (603978.SH) after 10 years of research four cemented carbide materials (AlMn80, AlCr40, AlFe60, AlSi70) participated in this international aluminum industry exhibition. It is reported that the four cemented carbide products are the first in the world, using the company's patented technology-large-scale vacuum smelting technology, and Synchronize developed and manufactured a large-scale vacuum induction furnace, a key production equipment. The company's vacuum smelting technology has won a total of 13 invention patents at home and abroad, leading the technical level.

The purpose of adding alloy elements in the aluminum smelting process is to hope that the added alloy elements (such as manganese) can form compounds with aluminum elements, only after the formation of compounds between metal elements, and then uniformly dispersed in the aluminum matrix, aluminum can have some special physical properties. For example, aluminum-magnesium compounds can improve the toughness of aluminum alloy, aluminum-manganese compounds can improve the toughness of aluminum alloy, aluminum-chromium compounds can improve the wear resistance of aluminum alloy and so on. At present, the mainstream aluminum-manganese alloy additive in the aluminum processing market is a manganese cake composed of 80% manganese powder and 20% aluminum powder (tablet),. This alloy element additive burns the aluminum powder in the process of use, and will produce a lot of smoke to pollute the environment. In order to further improve the performance of aluminum alloy element additives and reduce the comprehensive application cost, Shenzhen Xinxing has finally developed four new cemented carbide element additives (AlMn80, AlCr40, AlFe60, AlSi70) series products after 10 years. This series of products completely overcome the shortcomings of the traditional alloy element additive (tablet), and greatly reduce the production and application cost of aluminum processing enterprises (compared with the popular price of traditional products) and the impact on the application environment. What is particularly important is the multiple increase of the mechanical properties of the quality of aluminum (such as the use of Al-mn 80 alloy), that is, the elongation at break (fracture toughness). The launch of these new cemented carbide element additives on the market will play an important role in improving the quality of high-end aluminum products. The new cemented carbide element additive products developed by the company can completely replace the traditional alloy element additive (tablet). It is understood that Shenzhen Xinxing's series of new products have been put on industrial trial in domestic large and small aluminum processing enterprises with good trial results and high application benefits from downstream manufacturers, which can completely replace the existing traditional products.

According to statistics, the monthly demand of all kinds of alloy element additives (tablet) added in the global aluminum processing industry is about 35000 tons. Considering the normal fluctuation of market demand, it is conservatively estimated that the annual demand should be no less than 350000 tons. With the continuous progress of the Shenzhen Xinxing plant investment project in Luoyang-the annual production capacity of 30,000 tons of aluminum master alloy project, it is believed that the global aluminum processing enterprises will soon be applied to the new cemented carbide products produced by Shenzhen Xinxing. The full-scale application of this product will make a substantial contribution to the cost reduction, green environmental protection and quality improvement of the aluminum processing industry.

According to Hydro's official website, Hydro's adjusted EBITDA for the first quarter of 2026 was NOK 8.668 billion, lower than NOK 9.516 billion in the same period last year. This was mainly due to lower raw material costs, higher metal prices, and increased sales of alumina and metals, but this was partially offset by lower alumina prices, a stronger NOK, and lower electricity generation. Hydro's profitability was strong this quarter, with adjusted earnings per share increasing to NOK 2.07 in the first quarter of 2026, compared to NOK 1.63 in the first quarter of 2025. The upstream business segment continued to operate strongly in the first quarter.
