Rusal announced that it is carrying out a modernization plan to add new production facilities on the site of the existing workshop of the aluminum smelter, aimed at improving production technology and environmental sustainability ("the project").
To initiate the above process, the Board has approved a preliminary plan for the project, which sets out the scale, main features and estimated capital expenditure of the project. As part of the project, the Krasnoyarsk, Bratsk, Irkutsk and Novokuznetsk aluminum smelters will partially replace the electrolytic cells and infrastructure based on self-baking (Soderberg) production technology with pre-baked anode technology. In order to maintain the company's annual aluminum sales, the project will be carried out in accordance with a step-by-step implementation plan to minimize the impact on production.
In addition, the second phase of the Taishet anode workshop is concerned. In order to meet the increased demand for roasting anodes after the implementation of the project, the company expects to increase the output of roasting anodes in the Taishet anode workshop, while the estimated capacity of the second phase of the Taishet anode workshop will increase by about 400000 tons per year. According to the current plan, the project and the production increase project of the Taishet anode workshop will be carried out in stages and will be completed by 2030, and the investment will mainly take place between 2023 and 2027. Total capital expenditure is estimated at approximately $4.9 billion (including VAT).
