According to foreign media reports, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ((NHTSA)) is investigating 749312 GM airbag lights, which may prevent airbags from opening in an accident.
The Authority has begun a preliminary assessment of the problem, according to documents posted by NHTSA on its website. Earlier, NHTSA received 15 consumer complaints about models from 2020 to 2021, including Chevrolet Solod, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL and Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV.
The Authority said that "preliminary investigations are under way to determine the scale and severity of potential problems and to fully assess potential security-related problems". GM didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
Recently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ((NHTSA)) is also investigating some airbag components produced by parts supplier Junsheng Safety Systems company (Joyson Safety Systems) because they are also defective and may cause the airbags to fail to deploy properly in the event of an accident.
NHTSA said the 256181 passenger-side airbag assemblies produced by Junsheng could be affected. According to a document submitted by the agency, the investigation began on April 7. NHTSA said there was no known damage caused by the defect. A spokesman for Junsheng told Automotive News that the company was not aware of any examples of performance failures related to the recall.
