[copper Summit] preparation Technology and Industrial Application of New High performance Copper-Iron Alloy

Publicado: Jul 17, 2020 14:45

SMM7 March 17: today, at the 2020 China (Yingtan) Copper Industry Summit Forum and the 15th China International Copper Industry chain Summit hosted by SMM, Sun Junpeng, director of the Technology Center of Xi'an Seri Advanced Copper Alloy Technology Co., Ltd., delivered a speech on the theme of "preparation technology and industrial application of new high-performance copper-ferroalloy". It is mainly carried out from three aspects: the development history and present situation of copper-iron alloy, the characteristics and market application of copper-iron alloy, and the key preparation technology of copper-iron alloy.

Development history and present situation of copper-iron alloy

Copper-iron alloy is a new type of key basic material, which has a great application prospect because of its excellent properties, and it has been widely used abroad, such as Japan, South Korea and the United States, but it has not yet been applied in China, so there is a big gap.

Copper and iron as two ancient metals, the combination of these two metals will generate new vitality; the state is promoting new infrastructure, electronic information industry, smart city, smart transportation, smart grid, big data terminals and so on will use a variety of copper alloys, copper-iron alloys will certainly be useful in various fields.

Characteristics and market application of copper-iron alloy

Application of copper-iron alloy

Plates: heat dissipation materials, connectors and frame materials for power, electronics, machinery and automobiles

Mould material

Magnetic materials and new motor materials

Rods, tubes: heat exchangers, air conditioners, heat pipes, etc., welding rods (dissimilar metal connections)

Wire: communication, EDM wire, motor winding, Fhand PCB; automobile shielding wire shield wire

Other, powder, special areas

Key preparation technology of copper-iron alloy

From the phase diagram of copper and iron, the two are almost insoluble at room temperature, and the solubility is only about 4% at 1094 ℃. At present, the Fe content of copper-iron alloy is more than 5%, which has exceeded the maximum solid solubility of Fe in Cu by 4%. Copper-iron alloy belongs to "two-phase alloy".

The process of vacuum horizontal continuous casting and vacuum continuous casting is a perfect combination of vacuum technology and continuous casting technology, realizing continuous melting and casting of alloy, realizing continuous preparation of copper and iron ingots, reducing defects such as oxidation, suction and slagging, improving metallurgical quality, ensuring the stability of alloy melt composition, producing qualified ingots, and realizing efficient, clean and batch production of copper-iron alloy.

Vacuum consumable arc melting

Vacuum induction melting

Upward continuous casting

Non-vacuum semi-continuous casting

Pulverization by true air atomization

Laser 3D printing of copper-iron alloy, the Fe particle size can reach the micron level, and very uniformly distributed in the Cu matrix, and the hardness of the material is also higher than the conventional process, which fully proves that the addition manufacturing technology has revolutionary promotion and modification in copper alloy materials.

Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) reported molybdenum production of 3,029 tonnes in June 2026, up 6.5% MoM and 5.4% YoY. H1 output totaled 18,777 tonnes, down 4.5% YoY. Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde produced 943 tonnes in June, up 76.1%, while Anglo American Quellaveco produced 479 tonnes, up 25.6%. Southern Peru Copper Corporation’s output declined 16.0% to 1,065 tonnes. Gains at Cerro Verde and Quellaveco supported the monthly rebound, although cumulative supply remained below last year.

SMM Copper Social Inventory Rises WoW, Down YoY Amid Price Fluctuations and Varying Regional Demand
[SMM Copper Social Inventory Flash] As of September 14, SMM copper cathode social inventory across major Chinese regions stood at 90,300 mt, up 5,200 mt WoW from Monday and up 2,800 mt from last Thursday, but down 63,900 mt YoY. In Shanghai, copper prices pulled back notably last Friday. Although downstream buyers actively priced orders, cargo pick-up was not fully realized. Combined with small arrivals of imported and domestic supply, inventory saw some buildup. In Jiangsu, consumption improved on the copper price correction, leading to slight destocking. In Guangdong, with delivery approaching and a wide price spread between futures contracts, suppliers were actively shipping to delivery warehouses. However, after copper prices pulled back on Friday, demand recovered, and inventory also saw slight destocking.
