China’s top environmental watchdog reiterated its resolution to crack down on illegal recycling of lead-acid batteries

SHANGHAI, Mar 28 (SMM) – China’s top environmental watchdog reiterated its commitment to crack down on illegal recycling of lead-acid batteries, at a routine press briefing on Thursday March 28.

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) will work with other departments including the Ministry of Public Security to launch a new round of probes on the illegal collection and dismantling of lead-acid batteries and smelting lead.

Earlier this year, the MEE and other ministries jointly issued the Action Plan for Prevention and Control of Used Lead-acid Battery Pollution and the Pilot Work Plan for Gathering and Cross-regionally Transferring System.

The plan promoted the development of a standard and orderly battery recycling system, more strignent control on the regulation and administration of the secondary lead industry, harshly crack down on illegal action around lead-acid batteries, establish a long-term mechanism to prevent and control pollution and to facilitate the high-quality and green development of the lead-acid battery industry.
