Oversupply in global lead market Jan-Jul

The global lead market saw an oversupply of some 4,500 mt in Jan-Jul, according to data released by WBMS Sep 19

SHANGHAI, Sep 25 (SMM) – The global lead market saw an oversupply of some 4,500 mt in January-July, according to data released by World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS) Wednesday September 19.  

Global refined lead production stood at 6.66 million mt during January-July in 2018, up 2.1% from a year ago. From January to July, China’s demand of lead is estimated to have decreased 116,000 mt from last year, and the apparent demand in the US is expected to have fallen by 10,000 mt year on year, according to WBMS. In July, the world produced 950,400 mt of refined lead but consumed only 890,100 mt, showed WBMS data. 

The International Lead and Zinc Study Group (ILZSG) released a report last Tuesday showing that the global lead market saw an oversupply of 20,600 mt in July. Data for June was revised from a shortage of 4,000 mt to a shortage of 4,700 mt.
