Copper Ore Imports via Fangchenggang Port Grow 20.1% during Jan.-Feb. 2016

China Customs data show copper ore imports transit Guangxi’s Port of Fangchenggang were 174,000 tonnes during the first two months of 2016, up 20.1% YoY, cqn.com reports.

SHANGHAI, Apr. 1 (SMM) - China Customs data show copper ore imports transit Guangxi’s Port of Fangchenggang were 174,000 tonnes during the first two months of 2016, up 20.1% YoY, cqn.com reports.

Import value was 1.2 billion yuan, down 21.3% YoY. Most of these imports were from Chile and Peru, with 73,000 tonnes and 30,000 tonnes, respectively. Combined imports from the two countries represent 59.4% of the total imports via Fangchenggang during the same period.

The Port of Fangchenggang is the largest copper ore import port in Guangxi. Copper smelters built imported goods actively on big price spread between domestic and overseas copper. Guangxi Jinchuan Nonferrous Metals also drove up demand for imported copper ore.
