CIS crude steel output drops 8% in May

MOSCOW (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association (World Steel), the crude steel production by Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) declined by 7.6% during the month of May year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Byelorussia surged higher by 7.70% during May this year to 239,000 tonnes from 222,000 tonnes in May 2014. Kazakhstan produced 382,000 tonnes of crude steel, up significantly by 10.3% when compared to 346,000 tonnes production achieved during May last year. Moldova recorded 37,000 tonnes steel output during the month, falling considerably by 17.8% over the previous year. The total crude steel production by Russia was down marginally by 1.9% from 6.221 Million tonnes in May 2014 to 6.100 Million tonnes this May.

There was marked decline in Ukraine’s crude steel output in May. Ukraine’s total crude steel output declined sharply by 23% to 2.177 Million tonnes in May 2015 when compared with the output of 2.826 Million tonnes during May last year. Also, Uzbekistan’s crude steel output declined considerably by 18.6% during the month.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first five months in 2015 in comparison with those during same period in 2014.
