[SMM’s Weekly Review of the Indonesian Market] Billet Eases While Indonesian HRC Gains Edge in Vietnam
Week-on-week, wire rod held at USD 500/mt, slab at USD 478/mt and HRC at USD 515/mt FOB, while square billet fell to USD 468/mt (ex-works) from USD 470/mt. Indonesian HRC is at around USD 533/mt CFR Surabaya and USD 532-535/mt CFR Vietnam, up from USD 530-533/mt last week. Domestic prices were mostly flat: wire rod at around IDR 11,000/kg, rebar at IDR 10,000-10,200/kg and GI at IDR 15,000-15,500/kg, while HRC eased to IDR 9,900-10,000/kg as mills trimmed prices to close deals.
Billet fell as mills moved closer to buyers’ targets, while Chinese-origin sellers showed no intention of cutting further. In Vietnam, higher USD offers from Formosa Ha Tinh (USD 548-561/mt CIF) and Hoa Phat (USD 559-560/mt CIF) are pushing buyers toward imports, though Indonesia’s February delivery is a drawback against Formosa’s December-January shipment.
